2019 Syrah “Bien Nacido Z Block – The Original Hilliside”: Using the Estrella clone, the vines for this block were planted to Syrah in 1992 and is the original hillside planting on Bien Nacido Vineyard. It was picked on the riper side, at 24.4° brix, and fermented with one-third whole clusters. The wine was aged in two-thirds new François Fréres Burgundy barrels for 18 months, then bottled unfined and unfiltered. Deep, rich and dark, this complex yet graceful red has generous layers of berry/plum and spice.

93 | Very overt cedar toast aromas. Big, bold and plush, lots of opulence excellent intensity with a vanillin finish. Finishes chewy

96 | Blackberry, dark cherry and cedar oak aromas. Moderate drying tannins with fresh acidity and concentrated flavours.

93 | Blackberry, espresso dark chocolate aromas and flavours, Oak dominant on the palate. Needs time to unfold

95 | A concentrated, dark fruited wine with hints of anise. It is laden with dark fruit and mixed spice. Appropriate ripe tannins frame the wine. A delicious wine with a unique flavour profile.
