Waterford Estate Single Vineyard Chardonnay 2019

This Chardonnay vineyard was planted in 1988 and registered as single vineyard in 2012, which ensures that the traceability of the wine produced is exclusively to the original 5.8-hectare block. Soils are comprised of red clay (Hutton) as well as large granite deposits and parent material found throughout the clay profile. The clay adds structure to the wine, while the granite produces great minerality and finesse to the overall presentation. The 2019 vintage shows slightly richer and a fuller complexity on the palate compared to the previous vintage.

2023 Global Fine Wine Challenge

90 | The nose is slightly dank at first - it needs a little time to open. The palate does not have the flow that I am looking for.

88 | Pongy sulfides at first. Very lean and tense with high acidity. A trifle lean/hollow in middle.

86 | Super buttoned down. Charmless and unappealing - the wine needs more flesh. In an effort to create a tight, linear style, has ended up as a wine devoid of character. Hard work.

91 | spicy lean and fresh citrusy mineral med bod mineral tension fresh cerebral complex and zesty, clean and sound and with a bright acid backbone, ends with a spicy finish with a kiss of oak
