Vina El Escorial or formerly known as “Hacienda El Escorial de Panquehue” gets its name in honor of the Summer Palace “El Escorial” located in Madrid, Spain and built by King Felipe II. The hacienda was managed by Mr. James Carey, a Chilean of Irish origin, also called “Don Santiago” by his tenants, who dedicated himself to the cultivation and export of canned fruits and vegetables, being considered one of the first Industrialists and Exporters of The time.
