The Walla Walla Valley is an American Viticultural Area located in Southeastern Washington and Northeastern Oregon. The Valley is a beautiful oasis amid the vast sagebrush desert that rolls across most of America’s northwest interior.

The name Walla Walla means “many waters,” and it highlights the rivers and aquifers that provide so abundantly for those who discover this place with nearly 3,000 acres of prime vineyards and more than 120 remarkable wineries. 🍇

Introducing one of the 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 judges, 𝗧𝗼𝗻𝗶 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 MW, who is one of Australia’s leading wine commentators. 🍷

Paterson, at the age of 28, passed the rigorous Master of Wine (MW) examinations in 2001 on her first attempt and was awarded the prestigious Madame Lily Bollinger Medal for tasting excellence.

Paterson has judged at many international and local wine shows including, but not limited to, the Decanter World Wine Awards, International Wine Challenge & International Wine and Spirit Competition.

The 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟴 𝟯𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗽𝘀 𝗰

𝗡𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗮 𝗣𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗹𝗮, 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗱𝗮 is home to some of the oldest and most established wine producing vineyards in Canada. 🇨🇦

It produces mainly cool climate varieties of wine such as Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc. 🍇

With 34 wines selected for the 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟭 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲.

𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗲𝘁 𝗥𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿'𝘀 moderate Mediterranean climate and cool maritime influence gives it a strong seasonal consistency between vintages and the ability to achieve perfectly ripe fruit in most years. 🇦🇺

This also means 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗲𝘁 𝗥𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 can be relatively low intervention in the winery and let the quality of the grapes shine.

Therefore it's no surprise then that Margaret River features in the 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲.🍷

For the first time since inception in 2003, the 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 invited 4 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗲 (MW's) to judge the 2021 Challenge.🍷

This amazing team of world class judges included 𝗔𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘄 𝗖𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗠𝗪, an internationally recognised Master of Wine with significant auction, retail and new product development knowledge. 🌍

Andrew was the co-founder of Australian auction house Langton’s and the creator of Langton’s Classification of Australian Wine. He is a recognised authority on Australian wine with extensive media and communication experience.

Andrew's is currently focussed on media projects and further developing the ultra fine wine scene.

In his spare time, Andrew is a freelance writer, author, painter, international wine judge and filmmaker - including the Associate Producer role in the truly inspirational documentary 𝗕𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗺𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, which follows Zimbabwe's first-ever team of sommeliers who compete in The World Wine Tasting Championships.🎬
