This wine is a limited release and special bottling of our Ava Marie vineyard in the cool Hemel-en-Aarde valley, South Africa. The vineyard is harvested over three weeks and each harvest or parcel is vinified separately. During the maturation of these parcels, we occasionally pick up barrels that show

an unexpected and extraordinary quality. The he result of a combination of a specific parcel, harvested at a specific time and matured in a specific barrel. In 2022 there were five such barrels. We stole a small volume from each to create

a very special blend. The Cuvée Cru was born.

2023 Global Fine Wine Challenge

88 | Full-ish colour, almond nose, slightly sour acidity. Heavily worked, oxidative style.

83 | super weird aroma; squashed bananas and over-ripe melon. Lacks vitality and drive. Palate has a thread of hardness running through that seems at odds with the fruit, and the finish is slightly bitter. Looks very developed for 2022.

88 | significant recessed gas in glass, oxidation bright acidity, apple cider, oxidatively handled or bottle variance, spicy lean acid finish with nutty aftertaste

80 | Strong aldehyde. Oxidised. Out of condition.
