Alto Wine Estate Shiraz 2018

Shiraz being one of the first varieties planted on Alto over a century ago, this wine remains an example of classic Stellenbosch Shiraz. A challenging vintage as a result of the effects of the prolonged Cape drought, berries were small and concentrated with intense flavours. This vivid varietal expression carries through to the wine which is characterised by sumptuous power while exuding a balanced elegance.

Aromas of violet and fynbos drift from the glass, while the entry to the palate is marked by a discernible savouriness, a hallmark of Shiraz grape pedigree. Fruit comes to the fore on the mid-palate with flavours of ripe plums, black-currant and damson, harnessed by a long, cool mouthful that gives the wine a juicy, luxurious texture that lingers long after the memorable finish. Statuesque and profound, yet excitingly accessible.
