OUR ESTATE
We are located in the subregion of Lenswood in the Adelaide
Hills, South Australia. One of only two recognised subregions
in the Adelaide Hills.
Our estate is situated a little over 500m above sea level. The
property stretches across two separate ridgelines. The steep
east-facing slope is our coolest block. The altitude ensures
cool nights and its orientation means it gets the daybreak
sunlight but avoids the warmer afternoon sun. It is an ideal
location for earlier ripening varieties such as pinot noir
and chardonnay.
The second ridgeline slopes due north soaking up
the morning, midday and afternoon sun. This warmer
orientation is ideally suited to growing gamay and syrah.
These orientations, matched with the 800 million year
old soils, make it a very exciting site for viticulture.

OUR VINEYARD
We are currently developing a low-yielding, high-density
vineyard with biodynamic and organic principles in mind.
Much time and consideration has gone into our vineyard to
ensure the varieties we are planting are best suited to the site.
Climate data mapping has played a big role in our decision
making, particularly comparing our local data to other
world class wine growing regions. We have overlayed this
information with how our vineyard’s slope, soil, orientation
and altitude will interact with and influence the fruit
development, ensuring we are making the best wines from
our unique terroir.
High-density planting creates a better ecosystem in the
vineyard, where more moisture is retained and green cover
crops sequester carbon into the soil and create a cooler
micro-climate. We are also asking each vine to produce less,
allowing the vines to put more energy into a smaller crop,
which is ultimately better for flavour and quality of fruit.
The Adelaide Hills is one of the few phylloxera-free wine
regions in the world, so vines can be grown on their own
roots rather than grafted, producing the purest expression
of variety.
